2. Customizing Proportions, Cut & Color Palette
Welcome to Page 2 of 4 of my styling breakdown for The Petal-Drape Cardigan: Soft Shoulders, Cinched Waist. Here is how I adjust the neckline, waist placement, and tonal contrast depending on my client’s proportions.

📌 Pin Look
Tailoring the Line to Your Frame
For a pear-shaped figure, I let the cardigan fall just past the hip and tie it loosely, so the volume balances the lower half. If you’re straight up and down, I cinch it tighter and add a thin leather belt over the tie to create a defined waist. The key is always the same: the tie should sit at your narrowest point, not your belly button.
Color-wise, I love a tonal approach—think cream over ivory, or dusty rose over mauve. But if you want contrast, go for a deep forest green over a white slip dress; the dark shade recedes and makes the face the focal point. For broader shoulders, choose a cardigan with a shallower lapel and let the sleeves sit slightly off the shoulder to soften the line.
✦ Choosing Your Best Variation
- Monochrome Onyx & Espresso: Creates the longest, sleekest runway column with zero visual interruption.
- Warm Ivory & Champagne Bronze: Softens angular shoulders and catches golden-hour light beautifully.
- Structured Contrast Trim: Draws the eye directly to the collarbone and waist.
