💬 Maya’s Tailor & Styling Rule: My tailor's rule: the tankini's top should skim the waistband without gaping—never stretch tight. If the fabric pulls at the bust or hips, size up and have the sides taken in; a clean line is everything.

1. Why This Silhouette Works in Real Life

Last June, a client flew in from Miami for a last-minute fitting before her Amalfi honeymoon. She walked in holding a tankini she’d bought online, frustrated—it rode up, cut into her shoulders, and made her feel like she was wearing a swim diaper. I laughed, because I’ve been there. In my atelier, I immediately saw the problem: the cut was all wrong for her torso length. So we swapped it for a tankini with a higher leg and a square neckline that sat just below her collarbone. The difference was instant—she stood taller, and the silhouette elongated her whole frame.

That’s the magic of this particular shape. The high-cut leg visually lengthens the leg line, while the sculpted square neckline balances the shoulders and draws the eye upward. It’s not about hiding or covering; it’s about creating a clean, confident line that works with your natural proportions. When the fit is right, you forget you’re wearing swimwear—you just feel like you’re wearing something made for you.

✦ Maya’s Atelier Fit Notes (Part 1 of 4)

  • Vertical Proportion: Designed to elongate the frame while keeping movement comfortable and natural.
  • Fabric Weight: Look for medium-weight weaves or double-lined knits that hold a clean architectural line.
  • Save for Later: 📌 Pin Look to your capsule moodboard before your next shopping or tailoring session.
