2. Customizing Proportions, Cut & Color Palette
Welcome to Page 2 of 4 of my styling breakdown for The Tankini Reborn: High-Cut Legs for City Streets. Here is how I adjust the neckline, waist placement, and tonal contrast depending on my client’s proportions.

📌 Pin Look
Tailoring the Line to Your Frame
Proportion is everything with a high-cut tankini. If you have a longer torso, I’d suggest sizing up in the bottom half to ensure the leg opening doesn’t dig in—you want a clean line from hip to thigh. For shorter torsos, the high cut actually helps elongate the waist, so keep the top snug but not tight. I often have my clients try a size up in the top if they’re between sizes, because the ribbed jersey should skim, not squeeze.
Color-wise, I’m loving deep olives, terracotta, and classic navy for this silhouette—they read as both swim and street. If you’re fair-skinned, a warm rust or coral will pop beautifully; deeper skin tones can pull off an icy mint or electric blue. The key is to treat the tankini like a neutral base: let the accessories—a woven belt, a chunky gold chain, or a silk scarf—do the talking.
✦ Choosing Your Best Variation
- Monochrome Onyx & Espresso: Creates the longest, sleekest runway column with zero visual interruption.
- Warm Ivory & Champagne Bronze: Softens angular shoulders and catches golden-hour light beautifully.
- Structured Contrast Trim: Draws the eye directly to the collarbone and waist.
