2. Customizing Proportions, Cut & Color Palette
Welcome to Page 2 of 4 of my styling breakdown for The Tankini, Reimagined: A Modern Resort Silhouette for Effortless Days. Here is how I adjust the neckline, waist placement, and tonal contrast depending on my client’s proportions.

📌 Pin Look
Tailoring the Line to Your Frame
Let’s talk proportions. If you have a longer torso, choose a tankini top that hits at your natural waist or slightly below—this breaks up the length and creates a balanced line. If you’re petite, go for a cropped top that ends above the navel, paired with a high-waist brief that visually extends your legs. The goal is to create a continuous, elongated silhouette, and the tankini gives you the tools to do that by mixing and matching.
Color is your other tool. I love a tonal look—matching the top and bottom in a deep olive or a rich navy creates a one-piece illusion that’s incredibly flattering. But don’t be afraid to mix: a black top with a printed high-waist brief adds a playful, editorial twist. And when it comes to body framing, choose straps that flatter your shoulders—a halter neck draws the eye up, while a wide strap balances broader shoulders. It’s all about creating harmony between the pieces and your shape.
✦ Choosing Your Best Variation
- Monochrome Onyx & Espresso: Creates the longest, sleekest runway column with zero visual interruption.
- Warm Ivory & Champagne Bronze: Softens angular shoulders and catches golden-hour light beautifully.
- Structured Contrast Trim: Draws the eye directly to the collarbone and waist.
